Bible Verses: Psalm 46:8-9 (ESV-English Standard Version) God is our Fortress

An important part of keeping God’s word in your heart and having it available for when you need to quote it to fight against the devil’s temptations is to memorize scripture. There are many ways to do this including singing verses, using pneumonic devices, and old-fashioned look and don’t look as you try to say the verse. Here is a technique that I learned from memverse.com. Try it out and see if it works for you. This psalm encourages us to trust God during troubled times because God is more powerful than the world. God is with us, so we have nothing to fear. At two to three verses a week, it should take 4 weeks to memorize this passage, but you can work faster if you wish.

Psalms 46:1-11 To the choirmaster. Of the Sons of Korah. According to Alamoth. A Song.

Step 1: First read or sing or chant the verses several times.

(Verse 8) Come, behold the works of the LORD, how he has brought desolations on the earth.  
(Verse 9)  He makes wars cease to the end of the earth; he breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire.

Step 2: Now try saying the verses with words missing.

(Verse 8)  ___________, behold the works of the ___________, how he has brought desolations on the ___________.

(Verse 9) ___________ makes wars cease to the end of the ___________; ___________ breaks the bow and shatters the spear; he burns the chariots with fire.

Step 3: Try saying the verses with more words missing.

Step 4: Try saying the verses with even more words missing.
