Bible Verses: Psalm 46:6-7 (ESV-English Standard Version) God is our Fortress

An important part of keeping God’s word in your heart and having it available for when you need to quote it to fight against the devil’s temptations is to memorize scripture. There are many ways to do this including singing verses, using pneumonic devices, and old-fashioned look and don’t look as you try to say the verse. Here is a technique that I learned from memverse.com. Try it out and see if it works for you. This psalm encourages us to trust God during troubled times because God is more powerful than the world. God is with us, so we have nothing to fear. At two to three verses a week, it should take 4 weeks to memorize this passage, but you can work faster if you wish.

Psalms 46:1-11 To the choirmaster. Of the Sons of Korah. According to Alamoth. A Song.

Step 1: First read or sing or chant the verses several times.

(Verse 6) The nations rage, the kingdoms totter; he utters his voice, the earth melts.  
(Verse 7)  The LORD of hosts is with us; the God of Jacob is our fortress. Selah.

Step 2: Now try saying the verses with words missing.

(Verse 6)  The ___________ rage, the ___________ totter; he utters his ___________, the earth melts. 

(Verse 7) The ___________ of hosts is with us; the ___________ of Jacob is our fortress. ___________

Step 3: Try saying the verses with more words missing.

Step 4: Try saying the verses with even more words missing.

Step 6: Try saying the verses with only blanks.

Final Step: Try saying the verses without blanks: Psalm 46:6-7.
