Bible Verses: Genesis 1:27-28 (ESV-English Standard Version)

An important part of keeping God’s word in your heart and having it available for when you need to quote it to fight against the devil’s temptations is to memorize scripture. There are many ways to do this including singing verses, using pneumonic devices, and old-fashioned look and don’t look as you try to say the verse. Here is a technique that I learned from memverse.com. Try it out and see if it works for you. The goal for The Beginning series is to memorize Genesis 1:1-2:3. This passage tells the story of creation. At two verses a week, it should take 17 weeks to memorize this passage, but you can work faster if you wish.

Step 1: First read or sing or chant the verses several times.

(Verse 27) So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them.
(Verse 28)  And God blessed them. And God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Step 2: Now try saying the verses with words missing.

(Verse 27)  So ___________ created ___________ in his own image, in the image of ___________ he created him; male and female he created them.

(Verse 28) And ___________ blessed them. And ___________ said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth and subdue it, and have dominion over the fish of the ___________ and over the birds of the ___________ and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

Step 3: Try saying the verses with more words missing.
