Bible Verses: Genesis 1:23-24 (ESV-English Standard Version)

An important part of keeping God’s word in your heart and having it available for when you need to quote it to fight against the devil’s temptations is to memorize scripture. There are many ways to do this including singing verses, using pneumonic devices, and old-fashioned look and don’t look as you try to say the verse. Here is a technique that I learned from memverse.com. Try it out and see if it works for you. The goal for The Beginning series is to memorize Genesis 1:1-2:3. This passage tells the story of creation. At two verses a week, it should take 17 weeks to memorize this passage, but you can work faster if you wish.

Step 1: First read or sing or chant the verses several times.

(Verse 23) And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.
(Verse 24)  And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so.

Step 2: Now try saying the verses with words missing.

(Verse 24) And ___________ said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their ___________—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their ___________.” And it was so.

(Verse 24) And ___________ said, “Let the ___________ bring forth living ___________ ___________ to their ___________—___________ and creeping things and ___________ of the ___________ ___________ to their ___________.” And it was ___________.

Step 5: Try saying the verses with even more words missing.

(Verse 24) ___________ ___________ said, “___________ the ___________ bring ___________ living ___________ ___________ to their ___________—___________ and ___________ things and ___________ of the ___________ ___________ to their ___________.” And it ___________ ___________.

Step 6: Try saying the verses with only blanks.
