Bible Verses: Genesis 1:20-22 (ESV-English Standard Version)

An important part of keeping God’s word in your heart and having it available for when you need to quote it to fight against the devil’s temptations is to memorize scripture. There are many ways to do this including singing verses, using pneumonic devices, and old-fashioned look and don’t look as you try to say the verse. Here is a technique that I learned from memverse.com. Try it out and see if it works for you. The goal for The Beginning series is to memorize Genesis 1:1-2:3. This passage tells the story of creation. At two verses a week, it should take 17 weeks to memorize this passage, but you can work faster if you wish.

Step 1: First read or sing or chant the verses several times.

(Verse 20) So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
(Verse 21-22)  And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.

Step 2: Now try saying the verses with words missing.

(Verse 20)  And ___________ said, “___________ the waters swarm with swarms of ___________ creatures, and ___________ birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.”

(Verse 21-22) So ___________ created the great sea creatures and every ___________ creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And ___________ saw that it was good. And ___________ blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and ___________ and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds ___________ on the earth.”
