Bible Verses: Genesis 1:15-16 (ESV-English Standard Version)

An important part of keeping God’s word in your heart and having it available for when you need to quote it to fight against the devil’s temptations is to memorize scripture. There are many ways to do this including singing verses, using pneumonic devices, and old-fashioned look and don’t look as you try to say the verse. Here is a technique that I learned from memverse.com. Try it out and see if it works for you. The goal for The Beginning series is to memorize Genesis 1:1-2:3. This passage tells the story of creation. At two verses a week, it should take 17 weeks to memorize this passage, but you can work faster if you wish.

Step 1: First read or sing or chant the verses several times.

(Verse 15) and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so.
(Verse 16)  And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars.

Step 2: Now try saying the verses with words missing.

(Verse 15)  and let them be ___________ in the expanse of the heavens to give ___________ upon the earth.” And it was ___________.

(Verse 16) And God made the two great ___________—the greater ___________ to ___________ the day and the lesser ___________ to rule the night—and the stars.

Step 3: Try saying the verses with more words missing.

(Verse 16) And God made the two ___________ ___________—the ___________ ___________ to ___________ the day and the ___________ ___________ to ___________ the night—and the stars.

Step 4: Try saying the verses with even more words missing.

(Verse 15)  and ___________ them be ___________ in the ___________ of the ___________ to ___________ ___________ upon the ___________.” And it ___________ ___________.

(Verse 16) And ___________ made the two ___________ ___________—the ___________ ___________ to ___________ the ___________ and the ___________ ___________ to ___________ the ___________—and the ___________.

Step 5: Try saying the verses with only blanks.
