Memorizing Bible Verses: Matthew 6:31-32 (ESV-English Standard Version)
An important part of keeping God’s word in your heart and having it available for when you need to quote it to fight against the devil’s temptations is to memorize scripture. There are many ways to do this including singing verses, using pneumonic devices, and old-fashioned look and don’t look as you try to say the verse. Here is a technique that I learned from memverse.com. Try it out and see if it works for you. The goal for the Lilies of the Field series is to memorize Matthew 6:25-34. This is a passage about not being worried. Instead, we are to trust God to take care of us. At two verses a week, it should take five weeks to memorize this passage, but you can work faster if you wish.
Step 1: First read or sing or chant the verses several times.
(Verse 31) Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’
(Verse 32) For the Gentiles seek after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them all.
Step 2: Now try saying the verses with words missing.
(Verse 31) Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘___________ shall we eat?’ or ‘___________ shall we drink?’ or ‘___________ shall we wear?’
(Verse 32) For the Gentiles ___________ after all these things, and your heavenly Father ___________ that you need them ___________.
Step 3: Try saying the verses with more words missing.
