Memorizing Bible Verses: Matthew 6:25-26 (ESV-English Standard Version)

An important part of keeping God’s word in your heart and having it available for when you need to quote it to fight against the devil’s temptations is to memorize scripture. There are many ways to do this including singing verses, using pneumonic devices, and old-fashioned look and don’t look as you try to say the verse. Here is a technique that I learned from memverse.com. Try it out and see if it works for you. The goal for the Lilies of the Field series is to memorize Matthew 6:25-34. This is a passage about not being worried. Instead, we are to trust God to take care of us. At two verses a week, it should take five weeks to memorize this passage, but you can work faster if you wish.

Step 1: First read or sing or chant the verses several times.

(Verse 25) “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing?
(Verse 26)  Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?

Step 2: Now try saying the verses with words missing.

(Verse 25) “Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your ___________, what you will ___________ or what you will ___________, nor about your body, what you will put on. Is not ___________ more than ___________, and the body more than clothing?
